American Civil War Digital Collections. The Special Collections Department at the University of Delaware Library houses many unique primary sources related to the American Civil War. These include items such as letters, prints, documents, photographs and significant Abraham Lincoln materials. The American Civil War Digital Collections currently highlight the following collections: Letters and Diaries, Autograph Abraham Lincoln Documents, Alexander Gardner Photographs of Lincoln Conspirators (described below), Pierce Family Papers, and Rosenthal Lithographic Prints of Civil War Encampments. As the American Civil War Digital Collections at the University of Delaware Library continues to develop, they will be added to this online source.

American Civil War Digital Collections: Alexander Gardner Photgraphs of Lincoln Conspirators consist of 10 photographs, most of them taken during the execution of four of the men who were involved in the plot to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln. Alexander Gardner worked for the well-known photographer, Matthew Brady, and is known for his photographs of President Abraham Lincoln, the American Civil War, and and the execution of Lincoln's conspirators. Gardner was the only photographer allowed to photograph the execution of these four conspirators on July 7, 1865.
